Els in stages

Michael asked how long it took to make this painting of Els.
Here you see the different stages of the painting (anticlockwise). I arrived at the bottom-middle painting after an hour of concentrated work. The other two stages (bottom right and middle) took me another hour. It's always difficult to decide when a painting is finished.

Schimmert

No time to sketch (outside), not much inspiration either. A view from the road between Schimmert and Meerssen.

Els

Painting of Els, made this morning during our final model masterclass session.
Els was part of our model/portrait group for years, but could not join us this year for health reasons.
Good to hear that she recovered so well that she will start with our group again in September.
Acrylic on paper, 50x70cm.
Alas. the art class is finished for this year. The long summer wait started again.

Teleportation

Another facebook challenge.
8 artists make a drawing of a teleportation machine, starting from top left, end ending in the bottom right. This is my contribution, the sixth drawing.
All part of the challenges of Sketching workshop: Details.

The more educated amongst you may recognize the teleportation machine of the Jeff Goldblum movie "the Fly"; dating back to 1986 or so.

Chameleon in progress

I made the aluminium fin of the Chameleon this evening. A real chameleon has no fin of course, but that's called artistic freedom. Next week I'll fit it together, and do the soldering on the back side.

Maastricht, het Bat

Lunchtime in Maastricht. When I am working in the Maastricht office, I take the opportunity to make a quick walk into the centre of town. And if I feel like it, I have just enough time to make a quick sketch. The weather was quite nice today.

365: january

I am still doing a picture every day. It keeps getting more and more difficult to take one. Not that there is not enough to make a picture from, but not to repeat oneself.
Here are the january results.
I had the idea (stolen from Pascal) on January 23rd. That's why January is only 9 pictures.

Banlieu

The last of my Paris sketches. Our hotel (an excellent one by the way) was located in the outskirts of Paris, in the banlieu. This is the view from our hotel room window on the first floor.

Chameleon

Haven't even finished the previous project (the Royals): I still have to finish the wooden sockle.
And here is already the new project: a stained glass object in the form of a chameleon kreeping over a woodblock. No idea why I want to make a chameleon, but here it is, in progress.

Under the viaduct

Another Porte de Clignancourt fleamarket sketch. This old man was hoping to sell the most incredible rubbish: old clothes, worn shoes, outdated schoolbooks. It was cold, he had a threadbare blanket on his lap. But he was protected from the rain because of the viaduct above. On the other side of the street other vendors had their stuff spread out on cartons with ropes on each corner.
Whenever the horse mounted police came around, these guys would quickly lift the ropes, thus folding the carton and the contents, and be gone within seconds.

Porte de Clignancourt

Porte de Clignancourt is probably the largest fleamarket of Paris. We visited it in the rain, unfortunately is was not as lively there as other times. I found this truck parked on the curb at "Avenue de la porte de Montmartre".
