New York, Chinatown

The last of my sketches of New York: a view somewhere in Chinatown towards a watertower. I tried to retrace my steps, maybe this could be Pell street?
Een tekening in een straatje ergens in Chinatown, New York.
Time to draw something else than New York.

New York, what's left

Last drawings and sketches of New York, I completed the diary in my Moly, and finished the last sketches. A newspaperstand in Greenwich, corner of 7th ave. Watertanks across the street fron our hotel on W25 street. A hotdog stand on Madison square, just before the shuttle picked us up to bring us to JFK. What's left is these sketches and nice memories.

New York, Central park

Central park New York. Dead tired after walking the streets to see the sights. 33 degrees C. Funny: the squirrels, they were very free and ate out of hands.

New York day1

Still day 1 in New York, Sunday april 26th. I just had the opportunity to sketch while Gertie was sleeping. The Flatiron buliding on 5th avenue and Broadway, once the first and highers skyscraper of New York. You can tell I still had some jetlag, the drawing is not straight. Below a sketch of watertanks on the roofs of W25th street.

New York day1

New York, we arrived at JFK around 13.00, at the hotel about 15.30. My wife, Gertie, was sick from turbulence and jetlag and took a nap. So I took the opportunity to make some sketches in the park around the corner, Madison square. The Empire state building in all it's glory. It was a first time visit to New York, and this was surely one of the most impressive images I've ever seen.
New York voor beginners.

Last week we treated ourselves to a short week New York, to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. What a week. What a city. I will post sketches and stuff the next few days. For starters: this is the view we had last sunday night, from the top of the Empire State building. Afgelopen week een paar dagen naar New York geweest, we waren 20 jaar getrouwd. Wat een stad. Een voorproefje: uitzicht vanaf het Empire State building, afgelopen zondag.

Airplane

Tarbes, yesterday. I found this airplane stuck between an parking lot and a military academy. In the center of Tarbes. I drew and painted it on the spot, it took me 35 minutes, before driving to Lannemezan.

The Japanese architect Tandao Ando made a superb design. The music building is by the Austrian architect Raimund Abrahams.

The exhibition was about Dubouffet.

Dolphins in spring

I wish you could swim, like dolphins, like dolphins in spring. Text from David Bowie Heroes.
These words meant magic: does a dolphin enjoy spring? Does he swim differently when the light gets stronger?
It was a some disappointment when I found out recently that the real text read "swim", not "spring". Another mystery gone.
This is the study for the same painting. made for the birthday of a friend of my wife. I experimented with soaking the paper competely with water and have the watercolour run free over the paper.

Hohenstein Ernstthal

View from the entrance of the Hotel "Drei Schwanen" in Hohenstein-Ernstthal, in the east of Germany. There was still some snow. I also looked at the birthplace of the writer Karl May, but it was not worth drawing.
