Sketches

Brooklyn, NY

Last week I received a book with my illustrations in it!
Rachel Levine, an american author from New York, wrote a lovestory playing Brooklyn. The book is illustrated with a lot of sketches, some of which I made during our trip to NYC last year.
I finished reading the book in three evenings; it's a bit sentimental, but the conversations are very witty and fast written, and the characters were so colourful, I could not stop.
The book should have been called: unputdownable!
Typisch amerikaans dus.

Phoenix Inn

The Phoenix Inn in St. Helens, England. The Phoenix exists since 1903, and was located opposite the entrance of a plate glass factory. It was near the Knauf plant and after the meetings we made a small detour to give me the opportunity to sketch it. No time for a beer, maybe next time.

Een pub in St. Helens: de Phoenix Inn. Lag tegenover de ingang van een glasfabriek.

Galata bridge, Istanbul

Last of the sketches of the BNA trip to Istanbul. I sketched this while waiting for our lunch, superb grilled fish, we were sitting on a terrace overlooking the Galata bridge, between the western and eastern parts of Istanbul.

Santral powerplant

We visited "Santral" in Istanbul, an abandoned powerplant, converted into a modern art museum. Not much art, but a fantastic powerhouse in its original state. All machinery and even the control room was in its original state. The sketch below shows an electrical power indicator tree in this control room, drawn on location (it was hard to get the circles right).

More Istanbul

Istanbul, more sketches. We visited the city hall, the above sketch is the view from the roof terrace. Below a streetvendor in front of the Aya Sophia, selling hot chestnuts and roasted corn.
