Terezin

Can landscapes be guilty? We visited the WW2 concentrationcamp of Terezin (Theresienstadt) near Prague. While waiting for the start of a documentary film I sketched the path towards the execution grounds. The scene was beautiful with the golden and red falling leaves; a terrible beauty...

Prague, last weekend

Last weekend in Prague with my wife and some friends; terrific time, fine weather. This is the view from our room in the Ariston Hotel on a misty morning.
Vorig weekeinde in Praag met Gertie, Ger, Anita en Jolanda. Geweldig weekeinde gehad, mooi weer, veel gelopen. Dit was het uitzicht vanuit onze hotelkamer op een mistige morgen.

Krupka, last week

I was in czech republic, visiting the Knauf Krupka plant. We were staying in the Vladimir Hotel in Usti. It was a vintage 70's hotel in its original but now worn out state. It was like the town: Usti must have been a nice city on the Elbe river, but destroyed by -now abandoned- 60's and 70's building projects. See sketch.

In Tsjechie, bezoek aan de Knauf glaswolfabriek in Krupka. We verbleven in het Vladimir hotel in Usti, ooit een aardige plaats aan een bocht van de Elbe. Maar helaas verknoeid door -nu verlaten- jaren 60 en 70 gebouwen.

Teplice & Krupka, last week

I visited the plant in Krupka (Czech republic) again. We stayed in Teplice, in the Payer hotel. the payer Hotel is in a different part of town, and I sketched some houses that I came across when I ran up the hill to the Castle. First a local house&cafe, (for a Knauf collegue), the second is of a house on the other side of the street. It could have been part of the Hitchcock Psycho movie!

Weer op bezoek in Krupka (Tsjechie), overnachting in Teplice. Als ik vanuit het Payer hotel naar het kasteel op de erg ren, kom ik deze huizen tegen: een cafe (getekend voor een Knauf collega) en het ertegenover liggende bijzondere huis. Lijkt wel direct afkomstig uit de Psycho film van Hitchcock!

Teplice&Krupka, monday

Last monday I visited Krupka, near Teplice in the Czech republic.

An opportunity to post some sketches I made last year in the main square of Teplice.

The sketches are from my room in the Prince de Ligne hotel, and it lookes at a "plague pillar" from 1718, to commemorate that Teplice got away lightly with the 1713 black plague. the sculpture was made by Braun, who also did some statues on the Carlsbridge in Prague.

Afgelopen maandag was ik in Tsjechie, naar Krupka vlakbij Teplice. Een schets van de plaagzuil uit 1718, gemaakt omdat Teplice ontsnapte aan de plaag van 1713.

Teplice, Czech, last week

The week after Ukraine and France I was on the planes again: Teplice this time. It's a nice former Spa town, near the German border in Czech Republic; quite renowned in the 18th century.
The house I sketched is opposite where Beethoven lived for some time. He didn't write a Symphony here, but was said to have written his "letter to my immortal beloved" here. Also a picture of the hot water spring, 46 degrees. Didn't taste nice though.
Schetsen van een oude badplaats in Tsjechie, vlakbij de grens met Duitsland. Ooit, in de 18e eeuw erg beroemd: Beethoven woonde hier een tijdje tegenover het hier getekende huis. Geen symphonie, wel (zeggen ze) zijn brief aan de "immortal beloved". Ook een schets van de heetwaterbron.
