Its great that you're trying out portraiture. Not an easy discipline. Have you also checked out the app Sktchy? Artists choose photos that people upload and interpret them in various mediums. You can compare the photo with the sketch. I would grade the quality of the work as better than most. It also looks like great fun. I'm considering trying it out.
I did not know Sktchy. Thanks for the tip. I gather it's something like JKPP (Julia Kay's Portrait Party) on Flickr. I registered years ago, but never got to participate, mainly because I don't quite like drawing from pictures, but prefer drawing from real life. It's good way to practice though.
