Jake

Jake, our grandson is now 13 months old.
Even though they say never sketch a family member, I could not resist.
Made this while he was eating some bread, that's the only time they sit still enough.

Cute sketch. There's just a hint of a baby pout. I'm sure your family loves it.
I know what you mean about drawing family members. The images are put under a lot of scrutiny. I've done two of my grandchildren and am expected to do our third grandchild soon. My daughter hangs the paintings on her wall, so there's an expectation that they must be good resemblances. My experience is that its easier to capture a portrait when it is a child versus an adult. So the longer I procastinate, the harder it may be!

My father in law was a decent painter, and he once made a watercolour of my daughter, when she was about 2 years old.
To be honest, it was horrible. Technically well made, but no likeliness, and it looked like she was cross eyed.
It was quite painful. Worse, he was really upset that we would not hang the painting in full view in the living room, but on a secluded spot in our sleeping room. As soon as we had the chance we stored the painting in a dark corner in the attic.
My point is, due to family relations you cannot expect truthful comments on what you make.
